Remembering Gandolph St. Clair

Kennedy ‘Boots’ Samuel, former Executive Director of the Cultural Development Foundation (CDF), gave the eulogy at the funeral service for Gandolph St. Clair on Monday March 5th at the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception.  Prior to what was a moving service, members of the arts and cultural fraternities as well as members of the public were part of a procession from Serenity Park in Sans Souci, which took them along the John Compton Highway on to Peynier Street and right on to Micoud Street.

Gandolph served as Director of Carnival under the National Carnival Development Committee from 1998 to 2002.   He played an integral role in the facilitation of the French bands to Saint Lucia Carnival and the organizational structure of Jou ouvè. Between 2002 & 2012 Gandolph was Senior Cultural Development Officer in the Special Events Unit of the Cultural Development Foundation (CDF).  As Senior Cultural Development Officer in the Special Events Unit of the Cultural Development Foundation (CDF), he was instrumental in the formation of School La Magwit groups in communities, particularly on the West coast of Saint Lucia. Gandolph worked towards keeping these groups flourishing by visiting with them before, on the day of the celebration (October 17th) and after the festivities.
