The two delegations that left Saint Lucia last Wednesday, are taking Taiwan by storm. Ronald “Boo” Hinkson or Boo as he is affectionately called back home, performed at the Taichung Jazz Festival at the Taichung Civic Square on Saturday October 5th. Supported by his troupe of fellow musicians and singers, Boo wooed thousands of concert attendees with his own style of music fused with jazz and Afro-Caribbean undertones.

The audience was seen reveling in the energy pulsating from the stage and showed their appreciation with a standing ovation which preempted an encore.  Ever the gracious entertainer, Boo delivered one more song before leaving the audience begging for more. In a telephone conversation held after the show, Belizaire who was at the time in Taipei, congratulated him on a successful performance and conveyed his best wishes.

Boo’s next performance is on the 14th at the Taichung Jazz Festival where it is expected that over 40,000 persons will be in attendance. He is also scheduled to perform on October 15th in Taipei at a gala concert organized by the Saint Lucia’s Embassy in Taiwan.

At Shih Chien University, Adrian Augier and his team are busy preparing the Tribe of Twel’s three-costume display for Taiwan’s National Day Parade on the October 10th as well as for Saint Lucia’s 40th Independence Anniversary Gala Concert on October 15th at the University together with performances by Boo Hinkson and his team. Rehearsals, together with more than 30 participants from Saint Lucia and around the world will be held tonight (October 7th) and tomorrow (October 8th), to ensure that the parade is of a standard which would be expected at an event of this nature.

All of the logistics are being confirmed and plans are well advanced for these events.

This will be the first time Taiwan will have a country display costumes at their National Day Parade celebrations, and Saint Lucia is honored to have that privilege.

The Chairman of the Cultural Development Foundation is already in discussions with authorities in Taiwan to ensure that cultural exchanges including music festivals as well as the annual occurrence of carnival costume presentations at future National Day parades.
